Because James Scullin's Labor governemnt, with interal party disputes, was unable to bring relief of the depression, Australia had already felt the effects of the economic crisis when the party was voted out. When Lyon's UAP came into power, things didn't get much faster, recovery still remaind at a near halt. Australia reestablished its ties with Britain and followed there ideas of solving the economic crisis. Trade deals where dropped to follow Britain's policy of appeasement in order to prevent war with fascist powers in Europe.
